Electric Vehicle Group Purchase Program
There is hesitancy for both individuals and businesses to make the switch to electric vehicles due to lack of EV education and not enough financial incentive. It was important to start an electric vehicle initiative in the area, especially as Idaho’s transportation sector has the largest sources of carbon dioxide emissions in the state. Electric vehicles (EVs) directly reduce these emissions – especially when paired with renewables energy sources like solar.

Challenge
the need to move communities off of carbon-based fuels
Description
The program was designed to spread awareness of electric vehicles through community outreach and education while inspiring people to “go electric” by offering substantial discounts on two fully electric vehicles, the Nissan Leaf and the BMW i3, and two plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, the Chevrolet Volt and the Audi A3 e-tron.
RevUp Blaine was the first initiative of its kind in Idaho. The program ended on June 30 with twelve new electric vehicle (EV) sales. Before the program there were only five electric vehicles registered in Blaine County. Our three-month long campaign more than doubled the existing stock of EVs in the county. Of the 12 sales, ten were Nissan Leafs, one was a Chevy Volt and one Audi A3 e-tron.
The majority of the people who purchased vehicles through the program were individuals and families. Two local companies also purchased Nissan Leafs to use as company cars.
