The Resettlement of Isle de Jean Charles

As a part of the LA SAFE program, the resettlement of Isle de Jean Charles falls under the Resettlement category, where projected storm surge is expected to be in excess of 14 feet. The base principle of the Resettlement zone is that some parts of our state, due to a variety of reasons, are becoming uninhabitable. This is very much the case for the Isle de Jean Charles. The island is at risk of completely disappearing in the next 50 years or upon the next significant coastal impact. Before entire communities, such as Isle de Jean Charles, are wiped out because of coastal erosion or the next coastal impact, the remnants of dwindling communities must be captured and transferred if the state does not want to lose the unique characteristics that make it so special.
