Linking road infrastructure projects with existing development programs

Globally, the annual investment in road infrastructure is $1-2 trillion with 40% in developing countries and 70,000 kilometers of new road being constructed in Sub-Saharan Africa alone, in addition to considerable rehabilitation and maintenance on existing roads. With relatively small or zero additional investment, roads can add value by helping to harvest water, improving flood resilience, and even contributing to the control of sand dune formation.
